How to play Mossroll

A visual guide · Reach your first bud and flower

Your goal

Roll gently. Light the way.

Guide your little pillbug along the raised garden paths. Gather three buds in number order, then roll into the great flower. Your score and hearts travel with you into the next course and loop.

These are simplified teaching diagrams, separate from your live garden. The game runs in real time. Reading help pauses it; close help and choose Resume when you are ready.

Three buds, one welcoming flower

123→Three buds, then the flower
Stay on the bright path top. Numbers show the bud order; the next bud glows gold. Gather all three, let the flower open, then enter its center. This simplified path teaches the sequence rather than reproducing an exact course.

01Reach your first bud

Roll in, earn points, make a return point

1 · Meet the next bud12 · A new return point✓Bud 1 gathered · +200
A gathered bud gains a checkmark and earns 200 points. If you take a hit later, you return to your latest gathered bud. Buds and earned points stay with you.
  • Choose Start, or press Enter or Space while the garden is waiting. Arrow keys or W, A, S and D steer. Hold Space or Shift to brake. P or Escape pauses.
  • Mouse or touch: press on the path view and drag a little from that spot to steer. Release to coast. Hold the separate Brake button for a careful turn. With touch, one finger can steer while another holds Brake.
  • Your pillbug keeps rolling after releasing a direction. Brake slows it and still allows gentle movement. Ease off early, brake onto a broad platform, then steer around the bend.

02Give the brushes room

Read the core, the edge and the checkpoint

Brushes move along marked rails. Their solid centers can hurt you; soft bristles are decorative. Keep your whole pillbug on the bright path. A tumble or brush hit costs one heart and returns you to your latest bud, or the start if none is gathered.

Wait on a broad platform for a brush to move away from your crossing. After returning, the glowing ring briefly protects you from brushes; path edges still matter. A hit resets your clean-clear streak.

03Open the flower and make a clean clear

Buds, clean clears and a little pace

Points along the pathEach bud+200Clear base400 × ClearFirst clean · ×2 = 800Next clean · ×3 = 1200Pace · 0 to 600 extraAfter a minute · pace 0
Bud points always stay at 200. A course clear starts at 400 × Clear, plus its separate pace bonus. Your first clean clear earns ×2; the next clean clear reaches ×3. Damage makes that course clear ×1. These clear examples exclude buds and pace.
  • After the third bud, give the flower about 1 second to open, then roll into its center. A closed flower does not end the course.
  • A clean clear loses no heart during that course and restores one heart, up to 3. Buds do not receive the Clear multiplier.
  • Finish sooner for a pace bonus up to 600. After a minute it is 0, and you can still finish. There is no whole-run time limit.
  • Score is your earned total. Hearts are your remaining chances. Buds counts this course's checkpoints. Loop counts journeys through the three courses. Clear shows the current clean-clear multiplier.

04Keep exploring, or Bank when ready

Three courses, a continuing run

Keep your garden journey going1 · Orchard Canopy2 · Rainroof Walk3 · Moon ConservatoryNext loop · score and hearts stayBank, or zero hearts · finish
After Moon Conservatory, return to Orchard Canopy with your score and hearts. Brushes move faster on the next two loops, then the pace settles. Bank or losing the last heart ends the run; clearing a course keeps it going.
  • Start with 3 hearts. Choose Bank whenever you want to finish with your current points, even at zero. Play Again starts fresh; Menu returns to the games.
  • How to Play keeps the original text instructions. Visual Guide opens these pictures. Help, losing focus, too little space or turning a phone upright pauses the garden. Return and choose Resume; an existing manual pause stays paused.
  • On a phone, turn sideways. Landscape phones from 667 × 375 and tablets are supported. The game measures its actual available field and controls. If browser bars leave too little room, it asks for more space and preserves your run.
  • Use Full screen when your browser supports it, or Expand game for a larger view. Browser bars may remain in expanded mode. The display button also exits the larger view. Scroll outside the field and controls to reach the information and rankings below.
